Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) on Friday, September 10, arrested a man posing as a Sudanese national and impersonating a Sudanese Army General.
The man who identified as 32-year old Arafat Ikimu alias Rashid Koweh Bin Omar was nabbed in a covert operation by detectives from the Serious Crimes Unit within Westlands in Nairobi County.
The police in a statement revealed that the suspect had been targeting unsuspecting high ranking females within the country and in the course of their interactions lured them into non-existent deals thereby defrauding them of millions of shillings.
The recent case involves a female director who lost Ksh8 million to the suspect.
"He is in our custody pending arraignment with charges of Personation and Obtaining by False Pretences being preferred," the DCI disclosed.
Cases of impersonation have been reported in recent months. Earlier in September, two DCI imposters were apprehended when they summoned a member of the National Assembly under the pretense that they served at the police service.
Detectives in a statement noted that the duo issued the summon via social media.
"The Legislator later received a call from a private number rescheduling his appearance at DCI offices to a later date, but required that they meet at the hotel for a talk," read the statement in part.
The two were arrested while waiting for the unidentified lawmaker to show up and were taken for interrogation.
In a separate incident, five people masquerading as Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) and National Intelligence Service (NIS) officers were nabbed by sleuths.
DCI had been on hot pursuit of the five suspects accused of terrorising the public with their activities mainly focused on the Nairobi Central Business District (CBD).
