Fenty Beauty, a cosmetics brand launched in September 2017, by 9-time Grammy winner Rihanna, picked Kenyan comedy star Elsa Majimbo to showcase their array of sunglasses.

The young comedian expressed her joy after landing the gig in a video that has since gone viral.

"My 19-year-old self literally got a chance to work with Fenty. I am so proud. Thanking the Fenty family - they  have been so amazing - and Rihanna for this amazing brand," she tweeted.

Fenty shared the video on its verified social media handles captioning it 'weekend antics with Kenyan comic Elsa Majimbo'.

The cosmetics brand racked up a reported Ksh10 billion in sales in its first few weeks after launch, propelled by Rihanna’s fame and over 71 million Instagram followers.

Eleven of the 80 women on Forbes' 2019 list of the Richest Self-Made Women made their money in beauty or skin care products. Many did what Rihanna did, turn to the low-cost marketing opportunity presented by social media.

Arguably one of the greatest fashion icons alive, the Barbados native's fashion line is worth at least Ksh300 billion according to Forbes.

This places the Kenyan internet star on a path that no comedian has been on before.

An avid social media user, Elsa constantly posts videos across her platforms and has seen her twitter followers grow to 177,000, and boasts of over half a million followers on her Instagram page.

Following the global pandemic, social media platforms have taken up the lead role in marketing fresh talent, with a handful of stars emerging during this period.

Azziad Nasenya now falls under the 'media personality' category after one of her Tik Tok videos went viral and propelled her to stardom.

Local comedians have also adapted to the new normal with Flaqqo, being one of the most successful when it comes to producing viral videos consistently.

The sky is the limit for Elsa, as Kenyans took to her page to congratulate her for her new posh role under Rihanna's umbrella.
