The Second Lady of Kenya, Rachel Ruto, has been away from the limelight for a while but resurfaced recently with an introduction of her primary school teacher.

On her social media pages, Rachel heaped praises on Naftali Olasya, a headteacher who literally saw her grow from a little nursery school girl to her adolescent years.

"My headmaster from nursery to class seven in Likuyani Primary School in Kakamega County was the beacon of fortitude in my childhood years," Rachel began.

She showered Olasya with praise, indicating that he went out of his way to not only educate the children, but also inspire hope despite their poor backgrounds.

"He planted seeds of knowledge, sprinkled them with love and patiently nurtured their growth. It was a blessing to reconnect with him. He is indeed a change agent," she added.

Rachel would later graduate from Kenyatta University with a Bachelor’s degree in Education in the 1990s and followed in Olasya's footsteps becoming a teacher.

The Second Lady gave up her teaching career to become a stay-at-home mum as well as run the run the family business, Venture Africa Safaris and Travel Ltd.

She is now in the forefront in advocating for women empowerment – a cause she has dutifully taken up to create more favourable opportunities for women.

Additionally, she is the founder of Joyful Women Organization (JOYWO), an NGO that generates champions for the welfare of women through various poverty-alleviating initiatives.

JOYWO’S flagship project provided financial resources to women to engage in livelihood projects through table banking.

In line of her duty, she was awarded the International Honorary Fellowship Award on Women Empowerment at the Binary University in Malysia.
