A video surfaced online on Sunday, September 20, of Nairobi politician Alinur Mohamed being roughed up by police before arrest.

The politician, who considers himself an aspiring Member of Parliament in 2022, was accused of holding an illegal gathering.

Alinur revealed that he was arrested at the Kamukunji Grounds, but failed to understand the reason for his ambush.

"I have just been arrested while at the Kamukunji Grounds. I don't know where they are taking me to," he revealed in a statement.

The video showed the politician, who was dressed in maroon tracksuit, being manhandled by three individuals one of whom donned a blue police uniform.

"You have no authority to hold this meeting. Let us go to the station," one of the officers informed him before he boarded the police car.

His supporters caused a commotion in battle with the officers trying to prevent his arrest.

"This is our leader. Set him free please," voices could be heard urging the officers.

This comes even as politicians increasingly defy Covid-19 measures from the Ministry of Health while hosting their gatherings.

A pastor who administered at AIC Church in Ziwani called out his congregants which included Deputy President William Ruto and Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria for not following the measures properly.

Alinur stepped into the spotlight in January 2020 when speculations became rife that he had developed liaisons with former K24 TV anchor Betty Kyalo.

The politician was highly touted as most likely candidate to win the Mandera Parliamentary seat in 2022.
