The ongoing construction of the Nairobi Express Way is set to cause a nearly two-day water shortage in several estates along the highway.

Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) on Thursday, September 24, announced the water interruption is set to last till Friday, September 25.

"Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited would like to inform its esteemed customers that water supply shutdown along Mombasa Road started this morning at 6:00 a.m. to September 25, 2020, at 6:00 a.m.

"This will facilitate interconnection of the new and old pipelines and enable the release of the road median to the Expressroad contractor," read the statement in part.

Nairobi's South B and South C estates are one of the most notable residences that are affected by the water shortage with Mater Hospital also on the list.

Estates as far as Jogoo Road including Makadara and Hamza are also hit by the water shortage as they are serviced by the same pipes under maintenance.

The whole of Industrial Area will also not have water supply together with estates along Mombasa Road from City Stadium including the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).

The Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) and Athi River Export Processing Zone (EPZ) are some of the facilities that have also been impacted by the water interruption.

Estates of Imara Daima, Coca Cola, Mukuru, North Airport Road and Embakasi will have to wait till Friday, September 25, to be reconnected to water.

The affected areas have been advised to use stored water sparingly as NCWSC works round the clock to ensure water supply resumes by Friday.

The Expressway that begins at Mlolongo to JKIA, Nairobi’s CBD and ends at Westlands along Waiyaki Way is expected to cost over Ksh.62 billion.
