10 Rival Politicians Captured Fighting in Public [VIDEO]

Over the years, politicians have engaged in public fights when tempers flared in certain situations.

Some are usually in the heat of the moment and often result from previous comments made against the other.

While these incidences go on to indict the politicians for their poor public conduct, they often go on to mend fences and become friends.

In this article, we shall look at some incidences where rival politicians have fought in public.

Charles Njagua and Babu Owino

In 2017, Embakasi East MP Babu Owino and Starehe MP Charles Njagua Kanyi aka Jaguar exchanged blows inside the parliament media centre.

A scuffle ensued between the two MPs who started exchanging blows before they were separated by Parliament staff over an incident where Babu was accused of disrespecting the president.

"We will teach you a lesson Babu, you must respect the President," Jaguar shouted.

 "Which president? The only president I know is Raila Odinga," Owino responded.

The two were later forced to submit an apology to Parliament following the scuffle.

Senator Malala and Ex-CS Rashid Echesa

The supremacy battle between Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala and former Sports CS Rashid Achesa played out in public in 2018.

Malala had earlier referred to Echesa as illiterate while the former CS accused the Senator of being envious of his government position.

The altercation where both politicians exchanged words resulted in the stoning of vehicles as their supporters fought. Several people were injured in the fracas.

Months later, the two leaders buried their differences ‘for the sake of the Mulembe nation’.

Maina Kamanda and Ndindi Nyoro

Chaos reportedly erupted at Gitui Catholic Church in Murang' a County on September 8, 2019, after Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and nominated MP Maina Kamanda clashed.

The two traded blows over who should be allowed to welcome leaders present to the altar to speak.

Nyoro stopped the function over protocol and insisted on taking over the function something that did not go well with Kamanda and chaos ensued.

Nyoro was later arrested over the incident and asked for forgiveness for his conduct.

"On my own behalf and that of all politicians who attended the church service, in humility, I ask for forgiveness from the Catholic church and the entire church," he stated.

Aisha Jumwa and ODM candidate Ruben Katana 

Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa was involved in a gun scuffle in 2019 that saw a man shot dead.

The legislator had stormed a strategy meeting of the ODM candidate Reuben Mwamure Katana at his residence. The meeting was convened for ODM agents to strategise on how they would conduct the mini-poll.

In the melee, one person was shot dead who was identified as Gumbao Jola, an uncle to Reuben Katana, ODM's candidate for the Ganda Ward by-election

She was later arrested when police raided her home in Kakuyuni and was charged over the incident.

Ferdinand Waititu and Hassan Joho

In 2016, Ferdinand Waititu who was then Kabete MP clashed with Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho in Malindi over election malpractices.

Residents accused Waititu of bribing voters after which he was escorted by police to a police station before being released on a free bond.

At the station, Joho asked for the reasons as to why the MP would travel all the way to bribe voters.

The two exchanged words before the police intervened. The situation was, however, contained before the youths could disrupt the exercise.
