A boda boda rider, George Kanyi, has earned himself a near celebrity status after he impressed Kenyans with his guitar skills and singing prowess at a passenger station.
The rider who hails from Murang'a spends part of his time entertaining fellow boda boda operators with some of his songs before landing clients.
Kanyi ventured into music in 2006 when he joined a music school, but failed to complete his studies.
The boda boda rider has also hit the studio to record a number of songs. He, however, revealled that he was one of the many artists in the country impacted by the economic effects of Covid-19.
"I have been able to release a single album, but I have recorded a number of songs which if compiled could make two albums.
"Covid-19 has severely impacted us as there are few shows and events coming our way, and so I've been forced into full-time boda boda job," explained Kanyi.
He added that most of his songs are still in audio format as he is yet to raise funds to shoot music videos for his songs.
Kanyi hopes that with President Uhuru Kenyatta partially reopening some sectors of the economy he can be able to fully return to music.
Most of his songs are focused on educating the public, especially on corruption as the country heads into the General Elections in 2022.
"I can educate people through music, I really enjoy this because we are facing a number of challenges in the country including corruption scandals.
"People can get to be sensitised on corruption so that they fall prey to false promises by graft leaders," he noted.
Kanyi is, however, grateful that he can still earn a living from his bodaboda during the tough economic times brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.
