25 mourners on their way to bury a kin sustained injuries after the vehicle they were travelling in was involved in a road accident on Wednesday, October 7.
The grisly accident occurred along Nandi Hills -Chepsangor Road with initial reports indicating that the driver was speeding.
A correspondent in the area confirmed to Kenyans.co.ke about the incident stating that the road has sharp bends which may have led to the accident.
He further noted that the mourners had left Eldoret town headed for Kisii to bury a family member when the accident occurred.
"The vehicle was carrying mourners when the accident occurred, but no one lost his life," stated the correspondent.
Wreckage at the scene of the accident showed an overturned bus and a damaged coffin. Medics arrived at the scene of accident and were attending to the survivors.
The 25 were taken to Nandi Hills Hospital for treatment.
Accidents have been on the increase since President Uhuru Kenyatta eased the dusk-to-dawn curfew with another one involving multiple vehicles happening at the end of September.
The nasty collision took place at a blackspot near the General Service Unit Training Camp.
A lady identified as Nana Gichuru succumbed in the grisly road accident. Ms Gichuru was an actress, singer and photographer.
As of August 2020, National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) raised alarm over increased road fatalities especially with pedestrians being the biggest casualties.
The authority further indicated that accidents had been costing the state a loss amounting to Ksh300 billion every year.
The data showed that 3,567 people lost their lives in 2019, an increase from 3,337 recorded in 2018.
Out of the fatalities, 1,376 were pedestrians, 875 motorcyclists and 565 passengers.
