Former ANC Secretary-General Barrack Muluka has defended his decision to work with Deputy President William Ruto, saying he could not decline the opportunity to work with the man who is second in command.

Speaking during an interview with Citizen TV's Jeff Koinange on Wednesday, October 7, the renowned communication consultant said his educational background and experience could come in handy for the DP.

"When the person who occupies the second-highest office in the land considers that I’m meritorious of working with him and for him, it would be an exercise in self-delusion to say that I will not work for the person," Muluka said, adding that not many people would get the opportunity to work with a sitting deputy president.

However, lawyer PLO Lumumba who was also a guest on the show disagreed with Muluka. The lawyer questioned how the former ANC boss could manage to work with four politicians with different political ideologies within a short period.

"While I am one who is slow to judge and condemn, I am struggling to understand why Barrack Muluka offers his services to Ruto despite him occupying the second highest office on land," PLO Lumumba wondered.

Muluka has previously worked with Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, ODM leader Raila Odinga before joining ANC.

PLO used the Swahili word kiruka mito to describe Barrack Muluka's party-hopping tendencies.

“From Kalonzo to Raila to Mudavadi to Ruto… In Kiswahili, we say ‘kiruka mito’; a woman who gets married to many men and leaves all of them,” PLO hit at the consultant.

Muluka dramatically resigned as ANC Secretary General in August, saying that he had completed all the responsibilities and tasks assigned to him.

In a statement to ANC leader Musalia Mudavadi, the communications consultant added that he needed to decongest the space around the former Deputy Prime Minister.

“I doubt I could add more value to what I have done so far, moreover it is fitting that the space around you should be decongested, this will allow you to make critical decisions on the population and leadership,” the statement read in part.

ANC had earmarked former Kibra parliamentary aspirant Eliud Owalo to replace Muluka. However, Owalo also resigned from the party a day later.

It was rumored that the two experienced strategists would be joining DP William Ruto's campaign team. Time has proved that the rumors were true.

Owalo and Muluka join a growing list of seasoned man-power that the DP is recruiting ahead of the 2022 campaigns.

Former Senators; Boni Khalwale (Kakamega), Omar Hassan (Mombasa), and Johnson Muthama (Machakos) are firmly in the DP's camp.
