Kenya's Daily Covid-19 Cases Spike to 442

Kenya has recorded 442 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 40,620.

During the daily Covid-19 briefing in Eldoret, October 9, Health CAS Rashid Aman announced that 5,327 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 580,039.

Of the positive cases, 419 were Kenyans while 23 were foreigners.

286 were male and 156 were female while the youngest case is 3-years old and the oldest is aged 86.

In the county distribution, Nakuru county leads with 94 cases with Nairobi (80) and Mombasa (47), Uasin Gishu (22), Embu (20), Kisumu (20), Turkana (18), Trans Nzoia (14), Meru (15), Kisii (13).

At the same time, 166 patients were discharged 140 from the home-based care program and 26 from the hospital around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 30,876.

Regrettably, four patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 755.

CAS Aman observed that political rallies were on the rise that were turning back the gains made in containing the disease.

"Please avoid all sorts of social and political gathering as well as wear your mask and maintain social distancing," he stated.

He also officiated over the breast awareness month in the county where he advocated for early detection as the best preventions measure against the disease.

He observed that cancer had become an issue of public health concern in Kenya, causing a burden on the health system being the third cause of death with an annual of 47,000 cases and 32,000 deaths. 

"Breast cancer is the leading cancer in Kenya with 5,900 new cases annually. The uptake of screening services is still low in the country.

I encourage women to take advantage of cancer services to get screened and know your condition for early intervention," he stated.
