Kenyan government, on Monday, October 12, stepped in after a video of UK police officers assaulting a Kenyan man identified as Wycliff Cox went viral.
In a statement issued by the Kenya High Commission to the UK, the government acknowledged that it had taken up the matter with UK authorities.
The commission further indicated that it had contacted the family of the victim promising to ensure justice is served.
"The High Commission has already communicated with the UK Government raising the Government of Kenya’s concerns on the use of unnecessary force on an unarmed Kenyan man.
"The High Commission has been in constant communication with the family and assured them of the Government’s support as they seek justice," read the statement in part.
The office also noted that the incident occurred in late September, acknowledging the clip as disturbing.
"The Government of Kenya is keen that the case that was reported to the UK authorities in late September 2020 be thoroughly investigated so that justice is seen to be done, and also that all involved be held to account for their actions according to UK police conduct and regulations.
"The health, welfare and safety of Kenyans living in the United Kingdom remain a priority for the Mission and the Government of the Republic of Kenya," added the statement
In the clip that surfaced online on Thursday, October 8, Cox is seen being pinned down by police officers who had reportedly gone to arrest him for a breach of bail terms.
The incident started when the officers reportedly restrained him after he tried to escape and in the process, kicked one of the officers.
The police are alleged to have kicked and pinned him to the ground. His kin can be heard in the background begging the officers.
While the assault was ongoing, Cox's mother begged the police officers not to harm his son but she was dismissed curtly as, "Move away, you need to move away please.”
