8 Die as 437 Covid-19 Cases Reported in 24 Hours

Kenya has recorded 437 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 43,580.

In a statement on Friday, October 16, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 4,311 samples had been tested over the period bringing the total number of samples tested so far to 611,552.

Of the positive cases, 430 were Kenyans while 7 were foreigners.

253 were male and 184 were female while the youngest case is a four-month-old infant and the oldest being 95 years.

At the same time, 140 patients were discharged with 72 from home-based care program and 68 from hospitals around the country, bringing the total number of recoveries to 31,648.

Regrettably, eight patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 813.

In the county distribution, Nairobi led with 136 cases followed by Nakuru 66, Kilifi 29, Kisumu 26, Uasin Gishu 21, Kericho 21, Embu 17, Busia 16, Kajiado 15, Migori 14, Machakos 14, Kiambu 9, Meru 9, Nandi 8.

Bomet County reported 6 cases, Nyeri 5, Laikipia 5, Mombasa 5, Nyamira 3, Nyandarua 2, Elgeyo Marakwet 2, Turkana 2, Tharaka Nithi 2, Wajir 2, Murang'a 1 and Siaya 1.

In terms of sub-county distribution; in Nairobi, the 136 cases were from Kibra (40), Dagoretti North and Lang'ata had (9) cases each, Embakasi East and Kasarani (8) cases each, Embakasi  central, Kamukunji, Makadara, Roysambu and Starehe (6) cases each.

Dagoretti South, Embakasi South, Embakasi West, Ruaraka and Westlands had (5) cases each while Embakasi North recorded 4 cases and Mathare (3). 

In Nakuru, the 66 cases were from Nakuru West (57), Naivasha (5), Nakuru East (2), Njoro and Rongai (1) case each.

In Kilifi, the 29 cases were from Magarini (25), Kilifi North (3) and Malindi (1). In Kisumu, the 26 cases were from Kisumu Central (23) and Kisumu East (3).
