President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday, October, 22, left a crowd in stitches during an address in Kisumu where he was accompanied by his handshake partner Raila Odinga.

President Kenyatta was speaking, during the renaming of Kisumu’s Jomo Kenyatta Sports Grounds to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Sports Grounds, when he stated that he would consider marrying a second wife from Kisumu.

“Sijui kama mama nyumbani ataniruhusu…akiniruhusu labda naweza kupata mtu wa kuwa ananitengenezea mambo yangu pande hii…ndio tuwe tunatembea ukijua kuna pahali utakula ugali (I don't know whether my wife will allow me to get a lady from this region. It would be nice to know that when I'm around here someone will take care of me and I have somewhere to eat),” he stated as the audience roared in laughter.

The President promised to return to Kisumu to launch the projects he had commissioned.

He also said that when the rehabilitation of the railway from Naivasha to Kisumu through Nakuru and is completed by the Kenya Defence Forces, he and Odinga would ride a train from Nairobi to Kisumu.

The mammoth crowd that had gathered to receive the head of state was unprecedented.

Such large gatherings are known to excite politicians who usually stir up their audience through sensational pronouncements such as President Kenyatta’s.

Over the last weekend, Deputy President William Ruto also made a joke about getting a wife from Makutano, Meru County.

He stated that a local man had offered to give him a wife along with children such that he would only require to raise them.

As BBI and 2022 campaigns heat up, politicians are expected to start adopting local dialects, playing with kids during rallies and interacting with the common wananchi.

The political season often results in breaking up and making up of unexpected friendships.

One such example is when Uhuru ridiculed Raila's plan to change the constitution during the 2017 campaigns. Three years later, the duo is working together promoting BBI proposed constitutional changes.

The head of state stated that Odinga’s co-principals in NASA were being duped with promises of being given positions in an expanded executive.

Fast forward to 2020, both Kenyatta and the ODM leader are praising an expanded executive as the best solution to a winner takes all election in 2022.
