7 Employees From Same Company Killed in Road Crash

Seven employees working for the same company perished in a road accident along the Nairobi-Nakuru highway.

The crash that occurred on Sunday, October 18, where nine workers of Mega Wholesalers based in Eldoret were leaving a training session in Nairobi, where two survived.

A requiem mass was held in Eldoret on Friday, October 23, for the deceased who were identified as Paul Obale, Milkah Wangui, Susan Jebotibin, Margret Wambugu, Kennedy Ochieng, Martha Muthoni and Caleb Temba.

The accident happened at Kinungi area with Naivasha police boss Samuel Waweru confirming that the van they were traveling in lost control and rolled several times.

He stated that three had died on the spot, while two were pronounced dead on arrival. The other two succumbed to their injuries while undergoing treatment.

A colleague who spoke to journalists shed more light on the accident. 

"The staff were from the Eldoret-based branch and had attended a training session in Nairobi. They left for Nakuru on Sunday morning and unfortunately their Nissan vehicle was involved in an accident," he stated.

The company released a statement following the reports of the accident.

"To the bereaved friends and families of our fallen. No amount of words can describe the pain we all feel. However, we are here for each other and our deepest condolences go out to you from everyone in the mega family," Mega Wholesalers stated in part.

The accident occurred amid concern over increased cases of road carnage across the country’s roads with the country having recorded dozens of fatalities in recent weeks. 

According to a report released by NTSA, 2,689 persons had lost their lives between January 1 and September 30, 2020, compared to the same period last year where 2,655 lives were lost which translates to an increase of 1.3%.
