Police officers have vented their dislike for the new blue uniform in a countrywide survey conducted by the Parliamentary Committee on Administration and National Security (PCANS).
The committee is tasked with aiding police to push for their requests so as to be able to serve the people adequately.
According to the report, over 90% of the law enforcers stated that the new uniform is plain and ugly.
Police argued that the quality of the uniform was disappointing and closely resembled the Kenya Power uniform.
They added that they prefered the old uniform to the new uniform issued by Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai.
"The police are opposed to the new uniform and as a committee, we have to ensure that we listen to them rather than also push them to embrace the new uniform," PCANS Chairman Paul Koinange stated.
The law enforcers have been embroiled in a push and pull with IG Mutyambai and had previously lamented over the price of the new uniforms (between Ksh 3,000 and Ksh 5,000), opting for cheap tailor-made ones.
On Saturday, September 26, Inspector General of Police Hilliary Mutyambai warned tailors located along Luthuli Avenue, Nairobi and estates such as Kawangware, Huruma, against sewing police uniform.
Mutyambai cautioned that tailors who went against the directive would be arrested, declaring that all repairs would be done by government-appointed facilities.
The police service further warned them against mixing uniforms or wearing non-uniform items alongside the new uniform.
Failure to comply with these instructions would attract serious disciplinary action.
