17 Die as Kenya Breaks Daily Cases Record

Kenya has recorded 1,185 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rises to 53,797.

Speaking in Mombasa on Friday, October 30, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 9,851 samples had been tested over the period bringing the cumulative tests are to 687,452.

He disclosed that the youngest case is an 11-month old baby and the oldest is aged 93.

From the cases, 1,145 are Kenyans and 40 are foreigners. In terms of gender 733 are males and 452 females 

272 patients were discharged, 203 from the home-based care program, and 69 from the hospital around the country. Total recoveries now stand at 35,876.

1,119 patients are admitted in various health facilities countrywide, 4,440 are on home-based care.

41 patients are in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), 26 of whom are on ventilatory support and 15 on supplemental oxygen and not in the ICU, while 15 are in the High Dependency Unit (HDU).

"Our positivity rate has continued to rise which means that the disease is spreading among our people at an alarming rate," he observed.

Regrettably, 17 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 981.

In the distribution of the cases by counties, Nairobi led with 373 cases, Nakuru 157, Mombasa 118, Kiambu 94, Kisumu 61, Uasin Gishu 51, Kericho 39, Kakamega 38, Kisii 27, Narok 25, Trans Nzoia 22, Bomet 22.

Kajiado 20, Siaya 19, Machakos 17, Bungoma 16, Meru 15, Musia 14, Makueni 10, Kilifi 8, Nyandarua 8, Vihiga 6, Nyamira 6, Elgeyo Marakwet 3, Laikipia 3.

CS Kagwe further called for individual responsibility for all residents in the fight against the virus.

"You cannot say you are not wearing a mask because the government has not given you one, we don't see you walking naked because the government has not given you a shirt," he stated.
