150 members of one family are in distress after an investor demolished some of their houses on a 41-acre disputed parcel of land.
A report by NTV on Thursday, November 5, indicated a local businessman had laid claim to the family's ancestral land - prompting a protracted legal battle.
A widow, Margaret Muthoni Njagi, who spoke to the press claimed that government officials had conspired with the tycoon to disinherit.
She further noted that former National Land Commission (NLC) Chairman Mohammed Swazuri had visited them and advised the court accordingly.
"I was married here in 1977 and I stayed with my husband here until my husband passed away. We buried him in this land.
"I was surprised last week when the chief called me requesting I go to his office. Someone claimed that this land was his. We were shocked because we have been living here for a long time," stated Muthoni.
The dispute on the land located in Kivote village, Embu North sub-county began in 2016.
Muthoni's account was corroborated by Angelo Njagi, an Embu resident, who revealed that it was not the first time the investor had showed up.
"Last time, they came with a letter from the District Commissioner seeking to subdivide the land. We have lived and grown here.
"Where do they want us to go. We do not have any other place to go," decried Angelo.
Muthoni had disclosed that the area administrator had taken sides with the investor and they were looking to kick out the family.
They, therefore, appealed to the Ministry of Lands to be enjoined in the matter claiming that the provincial administration had infiltrated the dispute.
