Two mothers in Nairobi can now breathe a sigh of relief after they reunited with their two children who had disappeared for more than a year.
The two, Khali Ibrahim and Caroline Kemunto, revealed that they had endured sleepless nights after their children went missing from the Mukuru kwa Njenga slum neighbourhood.
The two children had been housed at Emmanuel Hope Rescue Center in Kayole after they went missing on June 4, 2019.
According to reports, social media played a key role in the reunion of the two parents and their sons.
"I was so happy when I saw my son. When he got lost, I could not sleep. I kept looking for him and now that I have found him, I am happy," stated Ibrahim.
After receiving the news that his son was found, Ibrahim travelled from Wajir for the emotional reunion.
The rescue center had a difficult time locating the children's families because of the scanty information the children provided.
"One of the children called Isaac could tell us that their place is Mukuru kwa Njenga so we started to think on how to link Soweto and Mukuru kwa Njenga is a long distance for such a child.
"When we talked to the police after one month, their was no report of the parents," stated George Unco, a staffer at the rescue home.
Kemunto vowed to look after her son at all times less she risks losing him again.
"I will not give him the freedom to roam around because you know when someone gets lost, it is an experience. I will not let him play alone," stated Kemunto.
As of 2019, a report by Missing Child Kenya showed that one out of every six trafficked people in the world is a child with orphanages globally hosting more than eight million children.
