Media personality John Allan Namu on Tuesday, November 10, shared an incident where he had to rush a teenager who had collapsed in Nairobi.

The incident reportedly occurred outside the Kenya Film Commission (KFC) offices located on Lenana Road, where a small crowd has gathered after the 19-year-old boy had collapsed and was unconscious.

Namu who was on his way to work stopped his vehicle and offered to assist the boy where the crowd was attending to him.

"Someone had called an ambulance but it hadn't arrived, so we offered to take him to hospital," he disclosed.

The teenager, who later came round while he was in the hospital, said he had not eaten for two days and was job hunting when he collapsed.

He had walked from the Pangani area to Lenana Road where he fainted.

The teen was attended to at the medical facility where Namu revealed that the teenager has been taking care of his 10-year-old sister.

"Finally, we tried reaching the next of kin contact he gave us, a Lawrence Kimathi but were not successful. If anyone here knows him, please ask him to get in touch," Namu noted.

Unemployment levels have been rising in the country with the latest report by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) in September 2020 showing that the unemployment rate had doubled in a period of three months from 5.2% to 10.4%.

In the latest quarterly labour force report, the government agency observed that 1,841,918 Kenyans were unemployed in the months of April, May and June 2020, up from 961,666 reported in the first quarter.

The highest proportion of the unemployed was recorded in the age groups 20-24 and 25-29, each registering over 20 percent.

The Covid-19 pandemic exacerbated the unemployment factor in the country, with President Uhuru Kenyatta during the Labour Day celebrations in May 2020 acknowledging that more than half a million Kenyans would lose their jobs during the period.
