Hundreds of applicants on Saturday, November 14, turned up for an interview for a TV position in Nairobi.
EBRU TV announced that it was looking for a TV host in an advert that also gave the time and location of the interview as well as other details for the applicants.
"Are you a young opinionated and eloquent youth between the age of 23 and 28 years? Ebru TV is looking for you for physical auditions.
"Auditions will commence as from 9 a.m for the first 30 people to arrive," the notice read in part.Kenyans who showed up in droves for an interview on November 14, 2020.
Responding to the advert, about a hundred young people showed up for the interview with some arriving as early as 6 a.m.
In a video seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the prospective candidates lined up waiting for their chance to be interviewed.
Unemployment levels have been rising with the Covid-19 pandemic. A report by Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) released in September 2020, showed that Kenya's unemployment rate had doubled in the past three months from 5.2% to 10.4%.
In the latest quarterly labour force report, the government agency observed that 1,841,918 Kenyans were unemployed in the months of April, May and June 2020, up from 961,666 reported in the first quarter.
The media industry has not been spared either with some stations laying off their staff to cut on losses.

Nation Media commenced on its restructuring plans in July 2020 where over 100 people including anchor Ken Mijungu were fired.
"In this journey, the group seeks to radically change its business model from print advertising and physical reader copy to digital advertising, e-paper subscriptions and content-driven reader revenue.
