Kenya Railways Corporation on Sunday, November 15, was forced to issue a clarification over a fake job advert that broke the internet on Sunday, November 15.

In a statement, the corporation urged all Kenyans to ignore the advertisement that promised a pay of Ksh5,000 everyday to successful applicants.

"We wish to advise the general public to ignore the fake job advert circulating on social media.

"Members of the public are cautioned to be extra vigilant and not to be quick to click on suspicious links," warned the corporation.

The advertisement had promised jobs at the Kenya Railway Corporation with candidates who made the cut set to earn between Ksh500 and Ksh1,000 everyday.

The advert, however, listed down a number of demands in which personal information of applicants would be mined.

The information included name, age, contact details and the name of the city or town and the process was strictly online.

The scam comes days after President Uhuru Kenyatta on Tuesday, November 10, launched the new commuter trains which are expected to serve Nairobians in a bid to ease traffic congestion into the city.

11 Diesel Multiple Units (DMUs) were acquired for the railway system at a cost of Ksh1.5 Billion.

The travel schedules for  the trains were also overhauled from traditional morning and evening trip to accommodate midday travels.

The new rail system will traverse through 5 estates across Nairobi and its environs.

The DMU rides will be charged at a flat fee of Ksh100 to each destination. Any passenger found not to be adhering to Covid-19 containment measures will be denied access to the commuter trains.
