A Kenyan MP's son was on Tuesday, November 24, left stranded at the Kinshasa International Airport, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) after he was barred from boarding a plane.

A report by the Nation indicated that Bush Wamukota, the son of Webuye West MP Dan Wanyama, was barred from boarding the plane back to Rwanda where he was to prepare for an upcoming basketball match.

He had flown to DRC to join TP Mazembe, a basketball team, for a local tournament which the team won.

Bush was barred from boarding the plane after being informed that he had tested positive for Covid-19 although an earlier test had shown the contrary.

Congolese national team doctor Jacques Wanani confirmed the incident noting that he was shocked how the tests turned out positive.

"We could not board the plane and leave him in Kinshasa because his (Covid-19) results, just like some of my players who participated in that tournament, were negative.

"Where on earth did the airport officials get their results from and how were their results out so fast?" he questioned.

Peter Orero who is the head of Kenya's delegation disclosed that the country had reached out to the player and was mapping out a plan to have him flown back.

"What has happened to Wamukota is unfortunate. We are in touch with him and have advised that he takes another test at a government hospital as we engage the country's health officials on the matter.

"We are hopeful he will be cleared and eventually join the rest of the squad here in Kigali," he stated.

Bush had hoped to catch the plane to Rwanda where he would fly into Kenya to join the Kenya Morans team for an upcoming game.

He was set to play against Senegal at Fiba AfroBasket qualifier on Wednesday, November 25.
