A property row between two politicians saw Thika town MCA Andrew Kimani rushed to hospital after he was involved in a fistfight with former Thika Mayor David Njihia on Wednesday, November 25.
Kimani, accompanied by a county planner, had gone to a one-acre piece of land in Ngoingwa estate, Kiambu County to disrupt any further activities by the former mayor who had started developing the disputed land.
This resulted in a physical scuffle with Njihia, who claimed to be the sole owner of the property.
Soon after the brawl, Kimani was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was treated for head and rib injuries that occurred due to the heavy blows from the former mayor.
“We had visited the site to present a letter stopping any development to the land. However, during the visit I was met with kicks and blows, forcing us to run for our lives.
"I’m pained that even an MCA can be beaten and threatened for questioning theft of public property," Kimani spoke to a local media house.
Responding to the allegations, Njihia did affirm roughing Kimani up, alluding to the fact that the MCA kept disrupting his developmental activities on his own properties.
“The MCA came with the county planner and started accusing me of grabbing the piece of land. With the plans I have for the land, I won’t allow anyone to disrupt my resolve.
"There was a scuffle where he kicked me on the ribs, and I similarly responded by giving him heavier blows and kicks. This is my property,” Njihia noted.
Both Kimani and Njihia recorded statements at Ngoingwa Police post as Kimani urged the police officers to probe the matter.
This past weekend on Saturday November 21, the two also clashed as Kimani, accompanied by a group of residents, demolished a structure that was allegedly erected on public land.
They claimed that Njihia had sold the piece of land to a private developer.
