Njugush Named Africa Digital Influencer of the Year

Comedian and YouTube sensation Timothy Kimani popularly known as Njugush, has bagged the Africa Digital Influencer of the year category in the 2020 Africa Digital Awards held on Saturday, November 28.

He took to social media to thank his fans and supporters for their encouragement.

"Africa Digital Influencer of the Year; a huge title thanks to your support. Thanks Africa digital awards for your recognition. Influence with a purpose," read part of his post.

The comedian beat 4 different nominees across the continent. He managed to topple off elite content creators among them Kwadwo Sheldoh from Ghana, Lasizwe from South Africa, Linda Ikeji from Nigeria and Edith Yoh from Cote D'ivoire.

Known for his hilarious antics on social media, Njugush is a primary target for companies looking for endorsement deals. This is due to the massive amount of followers that relate and associate with his content.

The popular actor currently boasts an impressive 1.8 million followers on Instagram and 1.1 million followers on Facebook. 

This award comes barely weeks after he was named as one of the 100 most influential young Africans in 2020. Other notable personalities feted include Boniface Mwangi, Edith Kimani, Victor Wanyama and Betty Kyalo.

The annual Africa Digital Awards are meant to recognize innovation, technology and creativity across multiple areas of an ever-evolving sector within the continent.

54 African countries participate in the prestigious award as their representatives seek to bag awards out of the 20 categories.

Nation Media Group also scooped the best digital media organization in Africa. Juhudi Kilimo company won the best Agritech innovation company.

Media personalities have been flying the Kenyan flag high with recent nominations and bagging of awards at continental and international level.

Citizen TV Anchor Victoria Rubadiri, on Monday September 1, won the 2020 BBC Kumla Dor Award. Another notable figure was comedian Elsa Majimbo who won the E! People's Choice Award on Monday, November 9.
