Police officers in Bungoma County have launched a manhunt after a man was shot several times near a GSU post.

Reports indicate that the man was shot several times in the chest, stomach and leg outside his house in Chepyuk area.

An area resident who spoke to a local media house noted that such incidents had become prone in the area.

“We heard dogs barking before we heard gunshots. No one dared to venture out to check out what was happening,” said one area resident who sought anonymity.

Chepyuk Ward MCA Franklin Simotwo confronted the police officers for not responding to a murder incident that happened few meters from their post.

“I’m calling upon the County Commissioner to intervene and have all the police officers who have overstayed here to be transferred and deploy others who are ready to serve Mwananchi,” he noted.

However, Mt Elgon Member of Parliament Fred Kapondi called for the residents to stay calm as the police carry out their investigations.

Furthermore, Bungoma County Commissioner Samuel Kimiti echoed Kapondi’s sentiments noting that police officers would bring the suspects to book.

Mt Elgon has recently been prone to many cases of insecurity which has caused an aura of fear among the area residents.

Residents have been appealing the police officers to hasten their investigations and nab the suspects who have caused chaos in the Rift Valley region.

An earlier incident in Mt Elgon also saw police issue a KSh1 million bounty for a suspect who was allegedly behind various murders in the area.
