1,096 Admitted in Hospitals as Covid-19 Cases Rise

Kenya has recorded 561 more Covid-19 positive cases in the last 24 hours as the country's total caseload rose to 89,661.

7 patients succumbed to the disease bringing the total number of deaths to 1,552.

During the Covid-19 press statement on Wednesday, December 9, Health CS Mutahi Kagwe announced that 6,387 samples had been tested over the same period.

Of the positive cases, 387 were male and 174 were female, while the youngest case was a one-year-old and the oldest is aged 87.

At the same time, 355 patients were discharged; 274 from home-based care and 81 from various hospitals around the country bringing the total number of recoveries to 70,194.

1,096 patients are admitted to various health facilities in the country while 8,016 are in home-based care program.

63 are in Intensive Care Unit(ICU), 32 of whom are on ventilatory support and 26 on supplementary oxygen. 5 are on observation.

Distribution of the cases by Counties: Nairobi 189, Mombasa 85, Bungoma 65, Busia 36, Kericho 19, Kiambu 19, Kwale 19, Kisumu 17, Embu 13, Kilifi 12, Nakuru 11, Lamu 11, Uasin Gishu 9, Marsabit 9, Kakamega 7.

Nyeri 6, Kirinyaga 6, Machakos 4, Laikipia 4, Kajiado 3, Murang'a 2, Homa Bay 2, Turkana 2, Makueni 2, Tana River 2, Taita Taveta 1, Nyandarua 1 and Elgeyo Marakwet 1, Vihiga 1, Meru1 , Siaya 1, and Trans Nzoia 1.

In terms of Sub County distribution: the 189 cases in Nairobi are from Kibra 26, Lang'ata 21, Dagoretti North 20, Embakasi Central and Westlands 12 cases each, Makadara and Starehe 11 cases each, Dagoretti South 10.

Kasarani and Mathare 9 cases each, Embakasi West and Kamukunji 8 cases each, Embakasi East, Roysambu and Ruaraka 7 cases each, Embakasi South 6 and Embakasi North 5.
