Joho Brags After Uhuru Drives Him in Locally Assembled Car [VIDEO]

Mombasa governor Ali Hassan Joho had the unique honor of being driven by Uhuru in a locally assembled car. 

Speaking on Thursday, December 10, during the commissioning of a local assembly plant of Proton Saga saloon car in Miritini, Mombasa County, Joho said in jest that he was among the privileged few to be chauffeured by the president.

"I have enjoyed the ride driven by His Excellency the president. I don't think many people have that opportunity and I can assure the public that the president is an excellent, safe driver. He knows how to handle vehicles," said Joho.

Joho pledged that Mombasa county will buy the local cars and also committed to purchase two of the vehicles for personal use. 

President Uhuru Kenyatta was at the coastal city of Mombasa to launch and inspect a number of infrastructure projects.

Before unveiling the Likoni floating bridge, the president had commissioned the local assembly of Proton cars at the Associated Vehicle Assemblers (AVA). 

The president drove the locally manufactured car within the assembly plant with Joho as the co-driver. 

The commissioning of the vehicles came at a time when the Kenyan government is planning to phase out the importation of used vehicles from Europe, the USA, and Japan.

Uhuru is known to enjoy solo drives, especially in his Mercedes G wagon.

In July, President Uhuru Kenyatta drove himself into Nairobi’s central business district and briefly interacted with members of the public from the window of his vehicle.

On February 9, 2020, the president surprised Kenyans when he drove himself from State House to the Nyayo National Stadium to inspect the progress of the preparation for the memorial service of the late former President Daniel Arap Moi.

In June 2020, a CCTV footage emerged on social media showing the Head of State driving into Nairobi’s CBD by night in the company of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
