The Inspector General of Police Hilary Mutyambai, on Monday, December 14, addressed the issue regarding the safety of Kenyans as the festive season kicks off.
During a Q&A session on Twitter, he noted that all police officers on leave had been recalled in order to beef security.
"During this festive season, police officers will have enhanced patrols. All officers on leave have since been recalled to give sufficient back up.
"Also, because of the uniqueness of the season, a multi-agency team is put in place to enhance security," Mutyambai noted.
Mutyambai also urged all members to exercise personal responsibility in order to combat the deadly Covid-19 virus.
This was in response to a question from a Twitter user who brought up the issue of Public Service Vehicles (PSVs) exceeding the recommended number of passengers.
"I am urging all members of the public not to board matatus that have more than the recommended number of passengers.
"Police officers will take action against anyone contravening Covid-19 protocols," Mutyambai affirmed.
Recently, Mutyambai had issued a Ksh20,000 instant fine for those flouting Covid-19 measures as motorists driving past the 10 pm curfew would also have their licenses cancelled.
Since then, police operations across the country have intensified as the festive season approaches. This has led to various PSVs being impounded and scores arrested.
The majority of Kenyans are known to travel upcountry in order to join their family relatives during the festive season.
Unfortunately, a section of them meet their demise on the roads.
