Teachers from across the country have a reason to smile after the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) announced promotion vacancies.
In a statement dated December 21, 2020, the commission announced that up to 15,226 positions were up for grabs.
TSC Chief Executive Officer Nancy Macharia announced vacancies for deputy principals, senior lecturers, senior masters, curriculum support officers, headteachers and deputy headteachers.Teachers Service Commission CEO Nancy Macharia addresses the media in January 2020 in NairobiFile
According to the commission, 6,680 senior master IV positions are vacant, 2,111 primary school headteacher jobs and 1,765 deputy headteacher II positions.
A further 1,590 deputy principal III, 1,096 deputies principal II, 1,341 for deputy principal I, and 291 curriculum support officer II are up for grabs. Other positions include 350 senior master IV and 45 senior lecturers IV.
"Pursuant to its mandate, the commission is inviting applications from suitably qualified candidates to fill the posts in line with the career progression guidelines for teachers.
"Interested candidates, who meet the required qualifications, should make their applications online through the TSC website," the statement by TSC read in part.
The commission further issued an application deadline for January 13, 2021.
Successful applicants will be required to present deployment letters, along with a certificate of good conduct from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations during the time of interview.
The teachers are further asked to avail clearance certificates by the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB), the Ethics and Anti Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA).
"For Duties and Responsibilities of the advertised posts, applicants should refer to the career progression guidelines for teachers (2018) available on th TSC website," Macharia stated.
The TSC has employed the guidelines in promoting teachers, however, has left out those from the Kenya National Union of Teachers (KNUT) following a court ruling in July 2020, that the union's teachers be promoted as per schemes of conduct and code of regulations for teachers.
The ruling resulted in a mass exodus of teachers from the union for the sake of career progression.
The TSC also released a timetable for interviews for the previously advertised 6,674 internship positions. The selection will be conducted across the country starting Monday, 29, 2020.
Successful interns will be required to report to assigned schools by January 11, 2021. This process is meant to ease the burden on teachers owing to the Coivd-19 pandemic.Kenya National Union of Teachers' National Advisory Council holds a meeting in Nairobi on June 5, 2019.Daily Nation
