Thirdway Alliance has named Angela Mwikali as Miguna Miguna's running mate in the upcoming Nairobi Gubernatorial race.

This was confirmed in a statement issued by the party on Thursday, December 31.

The party described Mwikali as a distinguished scholar and great woman of character who, together with the flag bearer Miguna Miguna, would transform Nairobi into a world-class city.

She issued a statement of acceptance, minutes after being endorsed, echoing Miguna Miguna's statement on reforming service delivery in Nairobi County.

She noted that the party's agenda would include job creation for the youths, fighting graft issues within the county, ensure universal healthcare is achieved as well as build enough housing for Nairobi residents.

Mwikali was also a contestant during Embakasi East constituency by-elections in 2019.

She holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in Business Administration from the University of Nairobi.

The Thirdway Alliance Party has announced exiled Kenyan lawyer Miguna Miguna as the party's candidate for the upcoming Nairobi gubernatorial by-elections

In a statement released on December 28, 2020, the party in its endorsement of the Canada-based activist, hailed him as a visionary leader capable of steering Nairobi City County.

"Another opportunity for the great people of Nairobi County to reclaim their capital has manifested itself in the forthcoming gubernatorial by-election. Nairobi deserves leadership devoid of ineptitude, unbridled lust, and gluttony for public resources which has defined it for the last 8 years," the statement by the party read in part.

"Dr "General" Miguna Miguna a Kenyan citizen by birth - ID. 2790598- who has sacrificed and worked for this great nation is the answer to this bankrupt leadership which has deprived hardworking people of Nairobi the most basic of services and dignity," it adds.

The party assured residents of Nairobi that Miguna would offer integrity, visionary and transformative leadership, and development for all, along with a fight to eliminate corruption from the county.

"It is therefore with great honour for Thirdwa Alliance Kenya to unveil Dr Miguna Miguna as its candidate for this by-election," the party announced.

"Thirdway Alliance Kenya and Dr Miguna hare a common belief that Nairobi, and indeed the Republic of Kenya, can no longer be entrusted in the hands of a corrosive cartel of plunderers and a criminal enterprise. It is time to drain this swamp of bad leadership and dismantle this rogue cartel haemorrhaging Nairobi," the party stated.

Miguna took to his social media to confirm the nomination urging Nairobians to back his bid.

"Yes, it is true. The march for Nairobi's liberation is on. I strongly urge all patriots to mobilise. Viva!" Miguna stated.

The party further urged that court orders be obeyed with regard to the self-declared general's Kenyan citizenship.

More than ten court orders have reversed Interior CS Fred Matiang'i's purported revocation of the Miguna's Kenyan citizenship and ordered the government to facilitate the lawyer's unconditional return to Kenya. The orders have, however, not been implemented.

Miguna had earlier expressed his desire to run for governor for Nairobi county. He was on the ballot in the 2017 general election where he lost to now impeached Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko.

Thirdway Alliance Party Secretary-General Fredric Okango revealed that Miguna had accepted the nomination to be the party's flag bearer in Nairobi.

The announcement by the party proceeds a deadline reminder by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) requiring parties to present names of candidates aiming to participate in primaries by December 28.

"Each political party intending to participate in the By-election shall submit the names of the persons contesting in a party primary and the date of the party primary on or before Monday 28th Dec. 2020," IEBC announced.

The commission further urged that independent candidates intending to participate in the Nairobi Gubernatorial By-election submit their names and symbols that they intend to use during the by-election for purposes of the nomination of independent candidates to IEBC on or before December 28.
