A woman in Kirinyaga County is alleged to have killed her five-year-old son during a prayer session.

Locals said that the woman, Mary Wambui, was casting out demons from her son, Collins Siaki, when he suddenly sprawled on the floor.

Kirinyaga West deputy county commissioner Moses Ivuto confirmed the incident on Saturday, January 23, adding that the woman would be charged with murder.

Wambui's husband disclosed that his wife decided to pray for their child because he was unwell.

"I thought they were normal prayers when our son fell and breathed his last," he stated.

The body of the boy was taken to the Kerugoya Referral Hospital mortuary.

Wambui is being held at the Sagana police station pending arraignment.

Cases of family members turning against each other have been rampant in recent times.

On Thursday, detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) trailed a man believed to have murdered his ex-girlfriend within Nairobi's Njiru area yesterday, by torching the woman in her house and taking off.

According to a statement by two domestic workers employed by the deceased woman, the man visited their employer at around 8 am.

The woman asked the workers to leave the house but they later heard reports that the deceased had been burnt alive.

"Her burnt body, whose hands appeared to have been tied before the house was set ablaze, was recovered at the scene," DCI wrote on their Twitter page.
