Police Spokesperson has declared interest in a top political seat in next year's general elections.

While addressing ODM delegates from Usonga, Charles Owino, declared that he will vie for Siaya gubernatorial seat.

“I never wanted to declare my political interest here today but because my father has reminded us, who am I not to show you direction. You are aware that next year people will declare interest in various positions and as a person who has worked in government, I will have clocked 50 years which allows me to resign,” said Owino.

According to Owino, his experience in the police service will give him a good chance of winning the seat.

The police spokesperson noted that he was aware that he will have many competitors including Senator James Orengo.

However, Owino warned the potential contenders to be well prepared for the race or else they will be disappointed at the ballot box.

He also said that they should seek other positions if they want to remain relevant in the political arena.

Owino said that he has not been close to ODM leaders due to the nature of his work.

‘’Now that they are in the system, I have sat with and enjoyed the leaders’ company,’’ said Owino.

Owino, who also worked as deputy inspector general, was named the Director of Communication services in the National Police Service in 2018.

He took over the position from George Kinoti who was appointed the head of the Directorate of criminal investigations (DCI).
