Residents of Maragua Constituency, Murang'a County, can breath a sigh of relief following the launch of the new Kenol Law Courts.

Previously, members of the public from the area had to travel to Kigumo or Kandara to access court services.

Maragua Member of Parliament Mary Waithira stated that the court would help curb the rise of crime in the region as well as expedite the determination of pending criminal cases.

According to the legislator, it previously took long before perpetrators of crime were sentenced due to the backlog of cases in the courts they sought services from.

She stated that the establishment of the court in the area had been necessitated by the increase of crime in the area, mainly the sale of bhang and illicit brew.

"We wanted to have a court in the area so that cases can be dealt with expeditiously," Waithira stated.

The MP renovated a government building for Ksh1.5 million to house the court, pending the construction of a new court.

"We have set aside Ksh14 million to establish a modern law court and we expect the project to be complete in the next one year," she assured.

Judiciary Chief Registrar Ann Amadi lauded the efforts by Waithira to set up a court for her constituents, stating that the judiciary aspires to have courts in every constituency to handle both criminal and civil cases.
