The Nairobi Metropolitan Service (NMS) has began the process of hiring individuals who applied for the vacant positions it advertised in January.
NMS noted in a statement that it was conducting practical and oral interviews at Nairobi's Uhuru Park.
The positions advertised include those of drivers of heavy commercial vehicles, plant operators, ambulance drivers, support staff and clerical officers.
The Mohammed Badi-led team had in January 2021, announced 240 job vacabcies as it also sought 15 ambulance drivers, 30 plant operators, and 100 drivers.
In the statement released on Monday, February 22, NMS noted that the employment was also aimed at getting an many youths as possible - to keep them busy as the country continues to grapple with extremism.
"NMS is well aware that recruiters of violent extremists prey on the emotions of their victims through manipulation and socialization making them feel alienated and denied a sense of dignity.
"To counter this, NMS has taken on Inclusion through employment opportunities, Kazi Mtaani, Advertised positions, in Public Participation we give an opportunity to every segment of the society to be heard as well as through our AGPO opportunities," read the statement in part.
The interviews were being conducted in strict adherence to Covid-19 protocols issued by the Ministry of Health.
The advertised jobs mainly targeted applicants with KCSE mean grades of D plain and above.
All jobs are offered on a two-year contract, with medical insurance as provided by the government.
Before embarking on the recruitment exercise, the senior examiners were briefed by the NMS Director-General Kang’ethe Thuku and the Director of Human Resources Management.
