The National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has cracked the whip by suspending operations of over 200 Public Service Vehicles (PSV) vehicles, belonging to KISTAG Sacco.

The move comes days after a matatu belonging to the Sacco was involved in a fatal accident along the Kisumu-Bondo highway where six people lost their lives.

The regulatory authority stated that the vehicles would be subjected to mass inspection and their drivers re-tested within 14 days before being allowed back on the roads.

The accident that occurred along the Bondo-Ndori road at Ralin’go in Rarieda sub-county involved a matatu and a truck.

According to eyewitnesses, the vehicles were moving in opposite directions before colliding head-on.

Four people, including a three-year-old child, died on the spot while two others died while undergoing treatment at the Bondo Sub-County hospital.

Earlier in February 2021, NTSA suspended the operations of Memba Travelers Sacco following an incident in which a female passenger died after being thrown out of a moving vehicle.

"The authority directs that all vehicles operated by the Sacco should cease operating with immediate effect," a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke directed.

The authority summoned the Saccos officials who were also ordered to present their fleet for a compliance inspection exercise in Nairobi.

NTSA also revealed that it would heighten its compliance check to ascertain that the Sacco meets the NTSA requirements for the operation of public transport.

The deceased, Judy Wanjiku, died following the altercation with the matatu crew over the fare she had been asked to pay.

The deceased was then pushed from the matatu in Juja rendering her unconscious for minutes. She later died at the hospital.
