Murang’a Senator Irungu Kang’ata  has claimed that the handshake deal between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga is over.

According to Kang’ata, since he is an experienced politician, he knows when mistrust enters a political relationship, the union cannot be repaired.

''I am telling you now, the government business is in great Jeopardy. The handshake is over, and don't be cheated, it won't be repaired going forward,'' claimed Kang'ata.

Kang’ata also claimed that  leaders allied to Deputy President William Ruto have been vindicated by the impending fallout facing the handshake, arguing that they had long seen the cracks.

“We warned President Uhuru not to enter any political partnership with Raila, but he refused, and the government started fighting us. Now he can see for himself,” he said.

According to the legislator, a section of Mt Kenya leaders were wise to stick with Ruto.

“If we had dared to follow handshake, and fought Ruto, we would now be completely isolated,” claimed Kang’ata.

The senator, however, acknowledged that President Uhuru is still their leader, and that they respect him. He urged the president to join hands with Ruto and support his ambitions.

Kang’ata’s sentiments came a day after Senator James Orengo hinted at growing discontent in the political marriage between ODM and Jubilee claiming that there were civil servants trying to derail Raila from ascending to the presidency.

“They have already declared in their minds who is going to rule Kenya next year, and I’m telling them you’re reaping where you did not sow. Without Raila Odinga, you could not be planning that issue of succession, so listen to these two principals; Raila Odinga and Uhuru Kenyatta.”

The Senate Minority leader further cautioned the said civil servants against meddling in politics of the nation, warning that this could lead to anarchy, further stating that he will expose them in due time.

“Whenever civil servants who are part of a cabal try to chart the destiny of a nation for their own personal interest, there can never be any peace. This is just a warning shot, because we’re going to expose these people, they’re trying to derail us,” he said.
