The family of the late Juja Member of Parliament Francis Waititu, alias Wakapee, moved to court amidst wrangles over inheritance rights of the MP's properties valued at Ksh300 million.

The MP's children; Michael Munyua and Terry Njeri have sued Susan (their step-mother) and her children as they demand control of their father’s estate.

Although all appeared well during the March 2, 2021 funeral service, silent cracks had developed between the children and the widow Susan Munyua.

The disagreement over inheritance has resulted in a lawsuit before the High Court, with each family claiming control of the properties.

“Our step-mother Susan and her offspring have taken it upon themselves the responsibility to assume the sole administration of our late father’s estate, which we urge the court to stop with immediate effect,” Munyua's affidavit reads in parts.

The fights come less than a week since Wakapee who had died after a long battle with cancer was buried in a sendoff ceremony that was attended by President Uhuru Kenyatta amongst other MPs.

Wakapee’s vast empire estimated to be worth Ksh300 million comprised of his Juja home and land valued at Ksh70 million. The MP also had several rental houses in Juja, Ruiru and Thika towns and a number of shares in various companies.

Munyua had earlier on indicated that he would battle for the Juja seat in the coming by-elections, but has since dropped out of the race.

Munyaua and  Njeri are accusing Susan's daughters Christine Njeri and Dinah Wanja of denying their father proper healthcare and wasting family property. Susan and her daughter have listed themselves as joint managers of Wakapee's properties.

The siblings want the court to deny Susan and her daughters' control over the estate for allegedly looting the property. Equally, Munyua and Njeri want to be appointed as the legal guardians of the said properties.

“Your humble petitioners therefore pray for a declaration that Terry Njeri Munyua and Michael Munyua Waititu be appointed as the joint legal guardians of Hon Francis Munyua Waititu and joint managers of his estate,” they asked the court.

The appellants also claim that the respondents illegally disposed of Wakapee's property such as land and cars, jewellery, suits and even spectacles.

Munyua and his sister also claim that several critical documents related to the late MP’s estate have mysteriously disappeared.

The case had been scheduled to start on Friday, March 5, 2021, but was postponed to a date that would be communicated to the family later.
