Ida Odinga Opens Up on Scare After Raila’s Illness

ODM leader Raila Odinga’s wife, Ida Odinga, has opened up on how the family got scared after the former premier fell ill and got admitted to the hospital. 

According to Ida, his discharge from Nairobi Hospital on Sunday, March 14 was a sigh of relief for the family and has also brought calmness to the family.

“We panicked a bit, but we thank God Baba is in a good mood and good health,” she recalled.

Ida told The Standard that the family received multiple calls from friends and relatives who wanted to know how the former prime minister’s health was progressing after news of his illness reached the public. 

She urged Kenyans and all family and friends to continue praying for the 76-year-old politician who tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday. March 11.

Ida added that Raila would be following his doctor's recommendation of taking a rest and restraining himself from any extreme physical activities until he gets well.

“He is out of the hospital. He is in good spirit and strong as ever. We need your prayers as he continues to take a rest from active physical engagements,” the former Prime Minister's wife said.

The ODM leader was admitted to the Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday, March 9 after he complained of body ache and fatigue

"We have confirmed that Raila Odinga has SARS-2 COVID19. He is responding well to the treatment at the Nairobi Hospital and remains upbeat. We are continuing to monitor his progress," his doctor, David Oluoch Olunya, later announced. 

Several politicians including Deputy President William Ruto wished him quick recovery terming him as a conqueror of many challenges. 

“You have fought many battles, you have always demonstrated courage and bravery. This too you will overcome. Quick recovery my friend. The nation is praying,” the DP stated.

Raila has been active in pushing for the BBI Constitution of Kenya (Amendment) Bill, 2020 through several campaigns in the country with the most recent one being in the coastal region.
