New details have emerged over the apparent murder-suicide involving a police couple in Ruaraka with their in-laws revealing the events leading up to the unfortunate incident.
The relatives who spoke to the media on April 7, disclosed that the couple Hudson Wakise and Pauline Wekesa, both police constables, had separated a few days earlier.
"Our sister (Pauline) moved out of their house on Sunday and came to stay with us with her children. We actually helped her move that day," the kin narrated.
She claimed that the sister left because her husband was unfaithful, and had other women.
"She had found a string of conversation on his phone, which made her believe that he was cheating on her."
They accommodated her and the children for a few days.
"On the day of the shooting, she went to work as normal and even left behind money for shopping. She even called to find out how the children were faring. The last call she made was in the evening asking if we had bought a mosquito coil," the relative disclosed.
Later that evening, her husband Wakise showed up asking to see his children. He was reportedly allowed to see the children, and even bonded with them for a while, but he refused to eat food offered to him.
He is said to have opened up about the pain of having to stay away from his children.
The wife is said to have arrived from work a few hours later, just after 8 p.m, and both went to have a conversation in a separate room. The two are said to have argued, at which point the husband pulled a gun and shot her in the chest.
The sister-in-law and the maid immediately took the children to safety.
The officer then turned the firearm on himself and fired, according to a police report.
Wakise was attached to the VIP protection at the Ministry of Interior and Coordination of National Government, while his wife was a traffic officer attached to Kilimani Police Station.
Interior CS Fred Matiang'i eulogised the young couple stating that he was deeply pained by the tragic incident involving the couple.
"It's a rude awakening to psychological challenges amongst some of our young officers that we have no choice but to now pay greater attention to. My sincere condolences to their families and friends," he stated.
