Basilio Ngunjiri- brother to renowned Kikuyu musician Albert Gacheru, who died two days prior, has succumbed to a long illness in Nyandarua county.
Ngunjiri's death was confirmed by a family member and announced by Nation on Thursday, April 8.
Kenyans took to social media to mourn the unfortunate demise of both Ngunjiri and Gacheru- two brothers who have died in less than a week.
"May God comfort the family during these tough times.
"Rest in Peace to both brothers. I pray for strength for the family.
"May God have mercy on us during these uncertain times," read some comments online.
Gacheru became a sensation and an instant hit in the 1990s after releasing Mwenda wakwa marirũ. Other songs he composed include Mumunya, Hurry Hurry Waithera, Nindaguteire, Indo ciakwa among others.
The benga musician also enrolled for a law degree at Mount Kenya University at the age of 50 in a quest to curb offenders from pirating his songs. He graduated and went to Kenya School of Law in 2016.
“I realised that this country has enough laws but few people, even those in business, understand the laws that relate to their businesses.
"I want to bring about a change in the laws governing copyright and social-economic affairs of the country,” he stated in a previous interview.
Through his record label Wamaitu Productions, Gacheru was very instrumental in helping produce musicians such as the Late John DeMathew and Queen Jane, Shari Martin and Mary Wambui among others.
