Senior NTV reporter Seth Olale is mourning the death of his three-year-old son after the boy succumbed to an undisclosed illness on Friday, April 9, while receiving treatment.

Olale shared the death on his social media pages indicating that the son had a twin brother.

"We will continue to love you unconditionally. Thanks for the three years and four months we shared.

"We shall reunite in absolute happiness one day. Bye, baba, bye. We love You," Olale shared.

The passing on of Olale's son comes four years after the NTV reporter lost a niece after she drowned in Watamu, Kilifi county, while the family was on holiday.

A report by UNICEF showed that every year, 74,000 children in Kenya died before reaching the age of five years.

Neonatal deaths (babies in their first 28 days of life) contributed to 46 percent of the deaths.

The Child welfare organisation found that children born in remote rural areas, urban informal settlements, and to women with limited education were at the highest risk of dying.

"In most cases, children from these communities die because their families are too poor or marginalised to access the care they need.

"In addition, Kenya still has a relatively high rate of maternal mortality, at 362 deaths per 100,000 live births," UNICEF observed.

The infant mortality rates in Kenya has been on decline with improved access to healthcare in the country.

The current infant mortality rate for Kenya in 2021 is 32.913 deaths per 1000 live births, a 3.36% decline from 2020 which was at 34.056 deaths per 1000 live births, according to UN data.
