Education CS George Magoha has asked Primary and Secondary School students and parents to prepare for school reopening set for next month.
Speaking during the opening of an exam container in Kiambu Town, Magoha announced that students would most likely be required to return to school on Monday, May 10.
The CS argued that the school calendar might not change explaining that Covid-19 curve seemed to be flattening.
"Programming for the calendar year, I am leap frogging forward and hoping that since it seems like the pandemic is starting to flatten, there may be no need for me to summon the stake holders to look afresh at the time table.
"The timetable remains as we had decided earlier in the year and by the grace of God, children will come to school at the time we said they should come to school," stated Magoha.
He was addressing fears raised by parents and students alike regarding the timetable after President Uhuru Kenyatta suspended physical learning for an indefinite period of time. The President also put five counties under partial lockdown.
The third term, which will kick off in May, is expected to run till June 2021.
During his address, Magoha also assured the country that plans were in full force to ensure Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results are released in the next two weeks.
He also assured that the heavy rainfall across various parts of the country would not affect the ongoing examinations
On March 26, Uhuru suspended all physical learning activities until further notice after the country recorded a spike in Covid-19 cases.
At the time, all institutions, from Kindergarten to tertiary, that were in session were shut down sparing students who were sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE).
“In respect to education in Kenya there shall be immediate suspension of all on-going physical learning in all our institutions including universities and tertiary and vocational colleges, other than for candidates sitting for the examinations and those in medical training institutions until otherwise notified,” Uhuru directed at the time.
