National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has launched a manhunt for Subaru drivers who were spotted racing along Thika Road.

A reliable source from the traffic watchdog confided in Kenyans.co.ke that NTSA had launched the manhunt in conjunction with the National Police Service(NPS).

A video clip surfaced online on Monday, April 19, showing several drivers of Subarus engaged in what appeared to be a racing competition at the Pangani Interchange.

A second video, believed to be from the same team of racing drivers, showed a number of souped Subaru drivers racing in Tigoni, Limuru.

An overtaking racer nearly knocked down a cyclist who was heading in the opposite direction attracting uproar from the public.

"We are still on the move. NTSA and NPS is hunting down those involved. This is the follow up of a crackdown," stated the representative.

The representative noted that the two clips were concerning, coming a few days after the authority impounded high-end cars with registration plates not issued by NTSA along Langata Road, Nairobi.

He explained that the exercise had paused for a week as they review their findings in the initial week's test run.

"We have taken a break for another week as we review the progress so far. This thing has come up and it is part of what we are following," he explained.

Among cars that were impounded in the exercise included Volkswagen Touareg, Mercedes Benz and Toyota Land Cruiser among others.

NTSA had warned drivers against using customised plates that are not of the prescribed design according to section 12 (1) of the Traffic Act.

NPS, on the other, has been implementing dusk to dawn curfew in Nairobi and Nakuru by enforcing roadblocks. The exercise delayed travellers on major highways from reaching their destinations for hours in the last two days.
