A senior investigator working for the National Lands Commission (NLC) on Tuesday, April 20, collapsed and died under unclear circumstances.
Antipas Nyanjwa, who served as NLC's Deputy Director of Investigation, collapsed at Soiree Gardens Restaurant along Ngong Road where he had gone for a meeting.
The hotel's management rushed him to Coptic Hospital where he was pronounced dead.A photo of the Ministry of Lands and Physical Planning headquarters in Nairobi.
Witnesses said Nyanjwa arrived at the establishment at around 9 am and was waiting for some people to arrive for a meeting.
He did not go immediately proceed to the restaurant and instead he waited in his car.
A while later, he got out of his car and went to the washroom. A steward is said to have seen him staggering and rushed to help him.
“He was struggling to walk and supported himself on the pole. He sat on the pavement where he collapsed. He neither ate nor drank while he was here,” the hotel manager narrated.
The deceased was a trained police officer who worked at the Directorate of Criminal Investigation and rose to the rank of Chief Document Investigator.
In 2014, he was transferred to NLC where he worked until his death. Earlier this month, it is reported that he had been transferred to a new post in Homa Bay.
The sleuth's skills were sought after owing to his expertise in analysing documents. In June 2004, Nyanjwa testified against Theoneste Bogosora who was imprisoned for life.
Theoneste had been accused of authoring a document that fueled the Rwanda genocide. The prosecutor had presented the document to Antipas, who analysed it and went to Arusha to testify.
In his line of work at NLC, he had been a key witness in fraud cases including one in 2017 where he exposed individuals targeting to steal land in Nairobi which belonged to expatriates.
In 2008, while working for the CID (which became DCI) Nyanjwa and his wife were attacked by thugs at their home in Kisumu. He was cut on his head, beaten and left for dead.
His death comes a month after his colleague, Deputy director communication Jeniffer Wambua was murdered and her body was found in Ngong Road. Investigations on Wambua's case is still ongoing.Jennifer Itumbi Wambua who went missing on Friday, March 12 2021.Daily Nation
