The Kenya Editors’ Guild is the professional association for editors in Kenya, including senior print, broadcast and online editors, and scholars of journalism and media studies.

The association and its members have committed themselves to defend and promote media freedom and editorial independence, and promote quality and ethical journalism.

They also provide a forum for sharing ideas and experiences that are critical in and for the media.

Two days ago, the Editor's Guild criticised the Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti for summoning the editorial leadership of Royal Media Services.

The team had been summoned over an exposé the company broadcast showing how police hired out guns to criminals.

“As far as we can tell, there is no criminal investigation against Royal Media Services’ editors and reporters over the production.

"The Police Service should therefore expend its energy, time and resources to investigating possible criminal activities within its ranks and ensuring that the culprits are brought to justice,” Otieno said.

The guild has advised Royal Media Services to ignore the summons and to limit engagement with the Police Service.
