The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) officers have made significant progress in unravelling the mysterious murder of the four Kitengela friends

Inspector General Hillary Mutyambai had directed his officers to form a special unit to probe the murder of the quartet who were reportedly tortured before death.

DCI stated that they had managed to establish how the four victims - Jack Ochieng, Benjamin Imbai, Brian Odour and Elijah Obuong - were able to afford a luxurious lifestyle without any slid businesses or employment.

Police officers who spoke to the Standard declined to reveal the details, stating that the evidence was tied to the case and that a document entailing their findings will soon be released.

It was also established that Imbai, 30, owned three high-end vehicles worth over Ksh11 million. One vehicle, however, has gone missing.

The four had been accused of being masterminds of a criminal gang that worked in cahoot with a rogue police officer. The officer was alleged to be offering them protection under certain terms and conditions.

Obuong's mother acknowledged that his son engaged with individuals of questionable character and that the family was surprised to find out that he was alleged to be a notorious criminal.

Police, however, did not disclose whether they would reveal the details of the rogue officer, or if they had traced one suspect known as Erico who met the four before they disappeared.

Detectives are also still searching for the mobile phones belonging to Erico and the four victims.

The four friends were reportedly kidnapped after eating lunch at a popular restaurant in Kitengela, their usual meeting point. Elijah Obuong's body was found near Mukungai River along the Murang'a-Iyego-Kangema road while Imbai's body was later found at General Kago Funeral Home in Thika.

Jack Ochieng's family disowned a third body which was believed to be his.
