Two bishops clashed at a funeral event attended by former Kiambu Governor, William Kabogo, in Kiambu County on Saturday, June 26.

Kabogo and other leaders consoled politician Hellen Wamaitha Mwangi - former M.CA Gatuanyaga Ward, Thika, Kiambu County - who lost her daughter, Hellen Wanjiru.

The priest leading the service was offended by Kiambu County Speaker, Bishop Stephen Ndichu who asked the Catholic Church to amend its sacrament doctrine. Ndichu chairs the Kenya National Congress of Pentecostal Churches and Ministries.

He further attempted to coerce the priest into subscribing to his wish by pledging to reward the clergyman's brother with a job at the County Government.

Ndichu, the protestant deacon, lamented that the Catholic church had barred non-members from taking the sacrament at a holy mass, which he found offensive.

"When you are giving the sacrament, you usually say that only Catholics are allowed to partake.

"You should make reforms so that everyone is also given the sacrament," Ndichu claimed and further preached that the sacrament represented the body of Jesus Christ which should be given to all despite their religious affiliations.

Mourners at the funeral turned against Ndichu and threatened to interrupt the event. The Catholic bishop was forced to intervene, chasing away the speaker from the podium and from the event.

"Kindly take your seat. You even have the audacity to threaten that you will interrupt my speech at any political rally organized by the county!" the priest wondered.

"Get out and go and do what you will do," he dared Ndichu.

Kabogo, while speaking, later on, deviated from commenting on the issue of the doctrine but apologized to the mass and the priest.

Wanjiru, the late, passed away on June 19. The 33-year-old was the Deputy Clerk of the County Assembly of Kiambu and the Director of Administration.

She left behind two beautiful girls, Nicole Wairimu & Tamia Wamaitha.
