The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has announced nearly 10,000 teaching jobs as it moves to address the shortage of tutors in schools.
This will also aid in the transition from the 8-4-4 system to the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC).
TSC CEO Nancy Macharia detailed that the commission is seeking to employ 4,000 new secondary school teachers to be employed on a permanent and pensionable term.
2,897 more will be hired to replace retired teachers in high schools.
TSC announced 1,000 vacancies in primary schools and also intends to promote 1,000 teachers from primary to secondary schools.
927 new teachers will also be hired to replace those who retired or quit their jobs in primary schools.
Requirements
Primary Schools
Be Kenyan citizens and registered under TSC
Have P1 Teacher education certificate
Secondary Schools
Diploma or Degree in Education with two teaching subjects
C+ KCSE
C+ in two teaching subjects or their equivalent
Applicants must file certified copies of their degree certificates and academic transcripts through TSC County Directors
Successful candidates will be appointed at T-Scale 7, and Grade C2.

TSC expects 350,000 teachers to apply for the aid vacancies before Monday, July 12.
The developments come at a time when TSC and teachers' unions are set to discuss the new Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) 2021-25. The employer is expected to promote teachers and increase their salaries too.
