The suspect accused of shooting two police officers and a woman at Quiver Lounge and Grill, along Thika Road, has surrendered to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) headquarters in Nairobi.

Dickson Mararo presented himself to the DCI on Monday, July 5, alongside his lawyer Cliff Ombeta.

Through his lawyer, Mararo explained his actions, claiming that he was provoked by the two officers which led to the shooting scene.

Ombeta alleged that the two officers were hitting on the woman, whom he claimed to be his girlfriend, on numerous occasions during the party which had been hosted by Kasarani police station OCS.

"He had been provoked quite a number of times by the officers who kept on hitting on his girlfriend and trying to talk to her even at the times he went to the washrooms, they would make passes and follow her everywhere she went.

"It reached a breaking point whereby he had to involve the bouncer, and as you could see in the CCTV footage, the officers also tried to confront the bouncer while trying to attack my client," Ombeta stated.

Mararo also entailed that he was not a gangster as purported by the media but a reputable businessman. He also affirmed that he was not on the run but was waiting for things to cool down before recording a police statement.

The news comes as police officers privy to the investigations had tracked Mararo's phone which narrowed his trail to Nairobi CBD.

The officers further affirmed that the suspect had been communicating with a lawyer before switching off his phone.

The CCTV footage of the incident which occurred on Friday, July 2, showed Mararo in an altercation with the two officers before ultimately exchanging fire.

The footage then showed Mararo fleeing through the backdoor of the lounge and escaping in a vehicle that had been parked nearby.

The incident left one of the officers shot in the neck while his colleague got injured in his hand. The woman was shot in the abdomen.

The three victims were rushed to hospital for treatment.
