Three NASA principals have renewed their vicious battle with ODM over the political party’s funds as they finalize the paperwork to end the coalition.
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi, and Ford Kenya leader Moses Wetangula have resolved to submit the papers that will see the end of NASA which sponsored ODM leader Raila Odinga for Presidency seat in the 2017 General elections.
Mudavadi has stated that a technical team has been working on the issue that will see NASA's collapse.
The technical team, according to Mudavadi who has declared his presidential bid is filing the last details before formally submitting the letter of withdrawal to the Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP).
“It is a process and something will soon happen. There are procedural issues we have to look at before the final decision is made. Obviously, people are working behind the scene on the matter,” Mudavadi told the Standard.
According to the NASA constitution, the coalition will be declared dead if three of the forming parties formally pull out. In this case, if the papers submitted by Wiper Party, ANC, and Ford Kenya are approved by ORPP then NASA will be dissolved.
The three Principals have also vowed to renew the legal battle with ODM over the political party’s funds.
Wetangula has declared that after the coalition is dissolved they will compel ODM to account for every shilling disbursed to the joint account by the exchequer.
“What is left of NASA is winding up and accountability issues. Public resources have been channeled to one of the partners who have completely refused to account,” Wetangula also told the Standard.
The three principals have mandated Kalonzo to reach out to ODM to solve the funding issues as they work on dissolution papers.
However, ODM Secretary General Edwin Sifuna has defied the three NASA principals, telling them to go on and dissolve the coalition. He insisted that ODM has nothing to lose if the three officially walkout.
Sifuna has gone ahead to state that the claims that ODM has failed to account for their share of the political party's funds are unfounded.
"We have never known what amount of money they are demanding from us; the legal and factual basis of that demand, so at least when the matter is in court we will be able to know for the first time what their claim against us is. So we welcome that cause of action."
